BACK TO BACK FEAST OF CONVERSION, CELEBRATED
“Danggay Bigueño, Sagut Kenni Apo San Pablo”
Prior to 2001, Vigan commemorated the annual feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, its patron saint every 25th of January. When it regained its status as a city on January 22, 2001 by virtue of the plebiscite that ratified Republic Act 8988, the reason for the thanksgiving celebration became two, with activities spread in a week or even more.
This year’s Vigan Fiesta, as in the past, was another joint undertaking of the LGU and the private sector. The event underwent careful planning by the Steering Committee headed by Mayor Eva Medina. It commenced with the Novena to St. Paul in the afternoon of January 16, 2012. In the evening, the last canvassing for the Search for Ms. Vigan 2012 was held at the Plaza Burgos. TVI9AN, Coming Very Soon!
Ciudad Vigan, the 2 - year old TV show of the City Government will air its final episode this March to give way to TVigan – Channel 9. A brainchild of Mayor Eva Medina, TVigan is the newly formed media arm of the City Government. It will air for 12 hours every day following the context of youth programs, lifestyle, tourism and culture, news & agriculture.
It is another breakthrough in governance for the City because staff talents and reporters will work 24/7 to render service to the Bigueños in terms of developmental communication.
Shows lined up for the Kai-Vigan Mo Channel are Vigan Life, TK2, Walay 101, Ciudad Vigan News Patrol, Sarita ti Aglawlaw and K-Vigan. The shows ensure a new link between the City Government and its constituents. TVigan’s pilot episodes will run on April 2,2012.//dado
JOSEPH "SONNY CRISTOBAL, Son of Vigan at Last
As Vigan celebrated its 11th Anniversary as a city, its people paid tribute to an extraordinary individual who has placed much effort and time to the Bigueños’ heritage conservation program. This, because he believed in our noble cause to perpetuate the legacies of our forefathers. He is an artist whose passion to bring new dimensions to the Arts in Vigan is immense. In recognition of this, Joseph Sonny Cristobal was declared as adopted son of Vigan by virtue of SP Resolution No. 2, s. 2012, during the Vigan City Night on January 22, 2012.
He is the Senior Culture and Arts Officer of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Outreach Division who is overall in charge of the Touring Programs. MR. JOSE "BONITO" SINGSON, THE BIGUEÑO OF THE YEAR
This year’s Bigueño of the Year is Mr. Jose C. Singson, the youngest son of the late former Mayor of Vigan - Maestro Joseling Singson and Caridad Crisologo – Singson. His siblings are public servants which include the late Gov. Titong Singson, Gov. Chavit, Board Member Jerry, Former PCSO Chair Honey Girl de Leon and Mayor Germy Goulart of Caoayan. Even in his younger years, he showed an impressive knack for business as he did house to house selling of boneless bangus, Vigan longganiza and other food products. He was born to an affluent family yet worked hard to become a successful business mogul in the food business, real estate development, electronics and communications, financing, trading trucking and equipment/commercial/ residential leasing. Mr. Singson brought Jollibee, Chowking and Red Ribbon to Vigan. He built Plaza Maestro, a commercial complex named in honor of his father; and Jardin Caridad in honor of his mother.
